A movie star 'do for you
By Carolyn Brundage
Every girl needs a change. With fall on the horizon and summer more
than a bit stifling, a new 'do is just what the doctor ordered. Here's
how to get the looks you've seen and loved.
Inspiration: Nicole Kidman Ladylike waves
Having healthy hair is an essential first step in getting the soft wistful
waves you've seen on your favorite celeb. Start by shampooing and conditioning
hair the day before you plan to go wavy. For damaged hair, apply a deep
conditioning treatment and a leave-in conditioning spray. One to try is
Ojon's Restorative Hair Treatment ($55 at ojonhaircare.com). This fortifying
treatment is unique in that it can be used as both a 20-minute deep conditioning
treatment and as a leave-in conditioner. Before styling, spritz hair with
a light-hold hair spray. Then use a medium-sized curling iron to curl
small sections of the hair. After you're completely curled, use fingers
to soften locks into wispy waves. Lightly spray hair one final time.
Inspiration: Halle Berry Pixie perfect
Sure, she's been sporting longer locks lately but we all know Halle looks
best in the super short 'do that shows off her fine features. This fall,
the pixie look gets funky. This super low maintenance style is easy to
attain, provided you get the right cut. Start by styling short hair with
a generous dollop of hair gel. Then, dry hair with a diffuser. Use your
fingers to style hair, lifting hair up to provide volume. Be sure to give
good face - this sheared lock look will have all eyes on you.
Inspiration: Jessica Simpson Sideswept bangs
Start with long bangs parted to the side. One key for perfecting the big
bang theory is to begin blow-drying bangs while they are still super wet.
Hold the hair several inches from the root, focusing on drying bangs at
the crown. This look calls for bangs to sweep to the side just over the
arch of your brows - ideal for those who want to focus on pretty peeps.
Inspiration: Jennifer Lopez Super-sized bun
The new trend in updos is super-sized buns, ideally suited to all hair
types. Start by using a styling lotion to keep hair under control. The
big bun starts with a high or low ponytail secured with a hair band that
won't cause damage. I use No Damage Elastics by Scunci (available at drugstores).
Take the remaining hair and roll it under into a puffy bun. Secure with
bobby pins underneath or pretty clips on top of hair and you've got the
season's ultimate updo.
